The safety of women and children depends on language inclusion.

Your donation helps connect women and children to vital technology, now, when they need it most

Four billion people in the world speak a marginalized language – a language that is excluded from many vital conversations. Conversations about health, education and safety. Conversations that are increasingly digital.

These same four billion people are being excluded from the digital conversation, creating a divide, a gap that particularly affects the well-being and safety of women and children.

Falmata’s experience is no exception.

Falmata*, a young mother with two small children, fled her home due to conflict. The family arrived in a camp for displaced persons in northeast Nigeria with virtually no possessions or resources, completely dependent on the services provided in the camp.

Falmata does not speak the languages used for communication by the humanitarian staff in the camp. She is completely dependent on others to interpret and explain anything said verbally to her or provided in written format. Falmata feels vulnerable. She is unable to communicate or express her opinions, her needs go unheard.

Falmata’s options for communicating freely and confidently are limited, they constrain her ability to make decisions for herself and her children, something all mothers should have the right to do.

CLEAR Global is focused on helping people remain connected through language inclusion. We build language technology solutions supporting low-resource languages to enable 2-way communication for the most marginalized.

We are connecting marginalized language speakers, like Falmata, by building the foundational technology for marginalized languages.

With your support, we can develop language technology helping displaced people, like Falmata, access health services, education, safety information and more.

* Falmata is a pseudonym, one of the thousands of women who find themselves in displacement across the world in conflict areas like northeast Nigeria.

“The communication challenges Falmata experiences severely impact her ability to access critical services such as healthcare, food distribution, and feedback mechanisms. She feels isolated, vulnerable, and powerless. ”
