2024 was a year of maturity for the organization. We are moving toward more sustainable income sources and less dependency on short-term humanitarian funding. This has meant focusing our work.
It seemed that the rest of the world started to understand the importance of language data; the rise of large language models (LLMs) helped this recognition. The sense that language barriers would soon be overcome and that LLM could perform translation tasks as well as humans was tested. In some cases, generative AI performed well enough, but in languages with little digital presence, the data gap was evident. In line with our direction, we continued our focus on speech and voice data and systems.
The world around us was changing rapidly. If we’re honest, we struggled to adapt as quickly as needed. Still, as our partners begin to understand the limitations of LLMs and technology continues to make rapid advancements, we are fortunate that we can now catch up quickly, leapfrogging intermediate steps that others have taken. In 2025, we will adapt and highlight our value added. The upcoming Direction of Travel revision gives us a chance to think through where we want to be as an organization.
Some things will not change. We remain committed to making CLEAR Global a place where everyone feels comfortable and valued; where everyone’s opinion is heard and respected. We will continue to hire the best people from all over the world, and push to ensure that our team and our work reflects our values.
